Town

.
The surviving Georgian part of the city centre is called Grainger Town. This shot is taken early on a June morning, from the top of Grey Street, which leads down towards the river. The portico on the left belongs to The Theatre Royal and the dome is one end of the Central Arcade, which I posted a interior shot of, for the 'music' prompt.

The building in the centre of this shot is the Grainger Market, on Grainger Street

Mostly, inside, it is open fronted stalls - butchers and green grocers, a haberdashers, a watch repairers, fishmongers and a couple of jewellers, but part of it looks like this, (with the Doc Martens shop in the foreground).

I just love roofs that let in the sunlight.
It does make a space light and airy. I think that bit might be a Victorian extension; it is built like a railway station, isn't it.
And a lovely town it is, too. :-)
That part is really nice. But behind me, from where I was standing to take the first shot, is a huge shopping centre, the biggest in Europe when it was built in the 70s. So much of the historic city centre was demolished in that architectural disaster of a decade *g*
