Fruit

*waves* Hullo, another late "Fruit" post!

Until visiting Japan, I'd ever only seen persimmons in the supermarket. This photo shows a ripe red persimmon on the bare branches of a late October day.

I have never seen a persimmon in the wild, either. I didn't even know where they originated. Did you pick an eat it, or leave it there?
I left it there - IIRC the tree was on someone's property (not in the wild). It was a temptation though, it looked so delicious!

When I Googled for an image of a persimmon tree, I found the one below in a blog piece called Persimmon cake: The winter fruit. Well worth a read, especially if you want to try your hand at making persimmon cake:

I've never seen them growing!
What a beautiful pic!

I had to google persimmon as I didn't even recognize the fruit - those varieties I've seen so far (as imported exots) must be another variety, as they look quite different.
