Vegetable

You can find almost any food in the Nishiki Market in Kyoto, Japan. What you're looking at here is a pickle shop. These huge barrels are filled with salt and topped with a spray of pickled vegetables, called tsukemono. I can't begin to name all these vegetables but I'm pretty sure you'll find eggplants, Japanese radish, leaf vegetables and cucumbers here... somewhere :-) Together with the bright lettered signs and richly weathered barrels, they make a very attractive display!

Very attractive and exotic. Japanese pickled vegetables taste so good, too. This morning's posts have conspired to make me want an early breakfast *g*
I love them too! Would give anything right now for some fresh tsukemono on rice :-D
What an assortment! I ate pickled carrots in a Japanese restaurant once, and enjoyed them a great deal.
That's a terrific pic! Did you taste them? I don't think I ever had them anywhere, Japanese food is very rare apart from Sushi, and that mostly seems rather adapted to European tastes, too.
