President

OK, this is a bit of a stretch for this theme, but...

DSCN2383.JPG

This is Elkhorn Slough, a gorgeous place not far from Monterey. It was saved from development with assistance from the Packard Foundation, founded by David Packard, longtime president of Hewlett-Packard and also president of the foundation itself until his death in 1996. Also, the picture was taken during President's Day week.

My husband got this incredible shot of a sea otter. We saw almost 30 of them, 22 in one "raft."

Sea lions on a pier. (My husband took this one, too.)

A brown pelican.

Great blue heron (I think) in breeding plumage.

Thank you, Mr. Packard and family!

The slough is beautiful, but the critters...! I especially love the otter, because who wouldn't love an otter?
I love when individuals set aside property. It's not far from development, but the wildlife doesn't seem to mind.
