
This is Elkhorn Slough, a gorgeous place not far from Monterey. It was saved from development with assistance from the Packard Foundation, founded by David Packard, longtime president of Hewlett-Packard and also president of the foundation itself until his death in 1996. Also, the picture was taken during President's Day week.

My husband got this incredible shot of a sea otter. We saw almost 30 of them, 22 in one "raft."
