I like this door. It says Victorian patronage for social good, the upside of paternalism. I also like that it says Free Public Library, and that's exactly what it still is. The lady going through the door is pushing a buggy; that's another generation starting to benefit from this place.
Not so much a door for bank, as a 'trendy' wine bar. For non-UK readers, this very door was featured in a long-running series of adverts from a competitor bank (this used to be a Barclays branch), in which a sweet lady of mature years laments that her bank is now a TWB. I'm not actually sure All Bar One counts as trendy, it's more mainstream mediocre. But the door remains, and the doorway still lies!
