The door that isn't

I've thought and thought about how to make this an interesting post, so...this is the not-a-door sequence
In late June last year, my home was burglarized.  The thieves kicked in a side door which enters into my living room (which used to be the garage).  For two months it was boarded up with plywood, over which I hung an old tablecloth, so the not-a-door looked like this:

I had never actually used that door in my three years in this house, and it's a vulnerable door because it's not overlooked and it's sheltered by shrubbery.  So the contractor agreed to brick it in for the same price as replacing the door.  So after two months of living with the plywood/tablecloth combo, this is what I got:

Finally, this is how it now looks:

Much better, don't you think?

Anything that is solved by a BOOKSHELF is a win in my book!
Ahem. My home is over-abundantly decorated with bookshelves and yet somehow there still isn't enough shelf space for my books.
Awesome transformation :)
Thanks. The burglary was actually very stressful for a lot of reasons, and to no longer have the point of entry as a focal point was a huge relief.
What a clever take on the prompt! Very nicely done. :)
Thank you!
change of any kind can be difficult - so nice to end up with bookshelves. we also can't seem to fit all our books into our home.

nice take on the prompt!
Change prompted by hooligans busting in, helping themselves, and kicking one of my dogs is perhaps my least favorite kind of change. Books in the piece of the house they broke provides comfort, though.
I love the idea of a not-a-door! And butterbobbin's right about the bookshelf = WIN (I never have enough bookshelves either).
It cracks me up because outside the house there are two steps to...blank wall.
I rather like the tablecloth - but the bookshelves are even better!
I agree! I rather thought the table cloth was a good interim solution while I waited for the contractor to do what was needed.
Very frightening to have your sanctuary violated in such a manner. Extra wall space with room for a bookcase is a major improvement over an unprotected door.
Vanishing door! And more bookshelves are always good. But how scary!
