Door

I had spent many days contemplating this, and then realized -- I've been re-reading some old comics, and the entire first 8 issues deal with "The Door At The End of the Universe." And as of Issue 8:

Very clever! And just how old is that comic? It looks older than I am, and that's pretty old.
Goodness, no! It was from my college years, mid-80's or so. Eclipse comics was one of the many big Independent comics that came out in that wave of popularity comics ("graphic novels") got in those years. I had recently found "Zot! -- The Complete Black-and-White Collection" -- and needed to re-read the color ones when I finished with that!

Zot! was a favorite of my college crowd. It gave us the line "De-evolve! De-evolve! Back to the trees!" :)

They really went for the retro look, then. And now...back to the trees!
Probably. He was a classicist, was McCloud.

The de-evolutionaries have a weapon that turns people into chimps. The heroine, Jenny, has a brother who got stuck as a monkey, and whenever he's on Zot's world (it's a parallel universe story), he's a chimp. Issue 9, the one after this one, has Butch on the cover announcing "Gorilla Warfare." :)
Oooh, that looks exciting! I always love the idea that you might go through a door and come out somewhere completely different.
It's a pretty good story. Zot! was one of the great ones to come out of the 80's comic boom; the author (Scott McCloud) went on to write "Understanding Comics" and some other books about comics; in the B&W collection he says he'd love to get back to Zot! but never has...

Yay! What a neat response!
Hee! That totally works!
