Crackpot

Church

In late 2007 I moved from Monson, MA back to California. For the eight years that I lived in Monson, this was my church. I attended faithfully, the minister was my best friend. I served on endless committees. It was a tiny congregation then: less than 40 people, and over a third were over 80. I loved this church.

The Sea

Church

My churchgoing, I'm afraid, is only architectural. So I have loads of pictures of churches, but I thought I'd share this one. It's a cold wet grey day today, and it was a cold wet grey day as we stood outside St Urbain in Troyes, discovering that the opening hours had changed two days before and we weren't going inside. Luckily, the facade is most of the point - a perfect example of Rayonnant style. It shows the style really well - lots of light and also lots of layers, with false screens and overlays all over the place. Beautiful, even on a cold grey wet day.
