I'm sorry - I can't use the singular of mathematics - it feels totally wrong to me - you'll have to accept that for Europeans the word has an 's' on it!

This is a picture of a statue which is meant to depict Newton, doing some sort of trigonometry.

It is in the courtyard of the British Library, and the sculptor is Eduardo Paolozzi

I have to say that when we first saw this scuplture it was from behind - and my daughter decided it was someone pulling their socks up whilst sitting on the loo..
