Roots!

Probably not my greatest picture ever, but I just love the scale. This was taken at the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoia trees in Yosemite National Park. I actually prefer the Tuolumne Grove as it's much less touristy, but this tree-- I think it's named "The Fallen Monarch"-- really shows the roots beautifully. They're a lot more shallow than you'd expect.
Interestingly, this tree fell about 300 years ago. Sequoia (and also redwood) is very resistant to decay. Cool, right?
