Friendship - mucun

Fruit

I don't eat out very often, so when I do it's an event! Some friends and I enjoyed lunch together, and one of them got such a pretty plate I had to take a picture.

Ahi stacked into a tower with avocado, crabmeat, and papaya salsa, with Ponzu sauce.

Fruit

*waves* Hullo, another late "Fruit" post!

Until visiting Japan, I'd ever only seen persimmons in the supermarket. This photo shows a ripe red persimmon on the bare branches of a late October day.

Vegetable

You can find almost any food in the Nishiki Market in Kyoto, Japan. What you're looking at here is a pickle shop. These huge barrels are filled with salt and topped with a spray of pickled vegetables, called tsukemono. I can't begin to name all these vegetables but I'm pretty sure you'll find eggplants, Japanese radish, leaf vegetables and cucumbers here... somewhere :-) Together with the bright lettered signs and richly weathered barrels, they make a very attractive display!
