notes from a small island


A favourite place to visit in the summer, for all our family, is the Home of Rest for Old Horses.

It is entirely up to the horses whether they come to 'talk' and be hand-fed with pony nuts; the public paths are along one edge of each large paddock, but some of the horses definitely want to meet their public, and some of them are absolutely full of personality!

I think this is the equine equivalent of a Glamorous Granny -


And this is like one of those elderly men who still flirt with the ladies -


And in one of the barns there is a list of the very first residents, and their occupations before they retired -


Mary, near the bottom, had an unusual job! (In case you can't read it, it tells us she was a pantomime horse. )
