craft

Meant to take a picture of my half-mittens made from the same yarn, but it didn't happen. So I give you this shot of a ball of yarn made mostly from the hair of dogs (some mine, some others) and a hat knitted by the wonderfully crafty people I know who spin and knit.

I always joke that I should make yarn (or another dog) from Kaiya's fur, so I think it's really cool that you actually did it.
LOL Well, I didn't do it. All I did was comb out the undercoat. The talented spinners and knitters in my local breed club made the yarn and the garments from it. Pretty awesome, though.
What sort of dog fur? or is it hair? interesting.
Hmm - I have a friend with a 'she's got a cat on her head!' icon - this would be a 'she's got a dog on her head!' hat :)
LOL We have people wearing hats, scarves and gloves - all made from our dogs' contributions. :)
Very cool!
They showed a news piece sometime last week where some woman gathered up cat hair an spun yarn from it! Made me wish I had some spinning skills (I certainly have enough cat hair).

Spinning is really easy to pick up.

I've been spinning longer than I've had my dog and I've never really tried to spin chiengora (which is essentially French for "dog hair," but it's the technical term), but I spin all kinds of things.

In fact, you can get a beginner's drop spindle really cheaply -- or you can make it yourself if you've got a local craft store.

Don't mean to sound like a spinning evangelist or anything. ^_^ I'm just a fan (and about to post a project of mine for the "crafts" prompt).
How interesting!
