Spooky

Halloween has been really taking off here in the past 20 years or so - much more than when I was a kid when a carved pumpkin was about all you got, and trick or treating was spoken of in hushed, excited tones because nobody knew anyone who really did it.

This year, fake cobweb spray has apparently hit the market - this house was the most extreme I saw, but there were plenty with white webs all over the gardens. I just wish I'd had my camera handy when I passed a house whose only concession to Halloween was a weeny carved gem squash on the gatepost. Maybe four inches across, and so cute!

Comments

I didn't see any fake cobweb - it clearly hasn't crossed the Irish Sea yet!

I do love the idea of a tiny carved squash as a sort of minimalist Halloween.
It's new to me, but I saw at least 10 houses with it this year, so I'd imagine it's only a matter of time!

It was terribly cute - and very effective, with dark green skin and that orange glowing flesh inside. Maybe we should all do it next year in revolt against the advance of the cobwebs!
I was extremely minimalist this year. I did note a few bat droppings on the porch as I handed out candy to the trick or treaters. Our neighborhood bat likes to sit at our front door and activate our security light in order to lure flying insects his way.
I love Halloween. Whether minimalist or over the top, it just makes me happy.
