notes from a small island

See

Here you can see the sea - and a container ship, and, in the distance, Scotland.

You would expect that the wee lighthouse would enable people passing at night to see where they are -

March 13th 2010 Boat off the Point of Ayre

But actually 'the winkie' is no longer lit. It was built because the build up of gravel meant the main lighthouse was getting further and further from the sea and it was felt that an auxilliary light was required. But now, after a review in 2010, it has been decided that the original one -

Point of Ayre

is big enough for passing boats to see anyway.

(Although mostly they just use GPS these days...)

Excellent uses of the prompt!
Thank you!
Lovely photos.

The little lighthouse is adorable!
It is cute, isn't it? It is sad that it is redundant.

I was going to take a picture of the fog-horn for 'hear'. Except that I'd forgotten my camera - but then no-one hears it these days - it's been declared redundant, too.
Very cute, indeed.

It is sad... so many things/skills/people are being declared redundant in recent years as we rely more and more on modern technology. New doesn't necessarily mean better.
I love a bit of wordplay. Great response to the prompt, and great shots.
