This was taken last December at Douglas Railway Station one morning - the engine getting up steam...

Train Douglas Railway Station

Comments

Always a "thumbs-up" with a train.
Absolutely!
Is this a passenger train? It's so pretty and old-fashioned.
It is a passenger train - but used more for recreation than commuting. When the UK railways changed from steam to diesel and electric, in the 1960s, our small, narrow gauge, railway did not follow suit. Part of it eventually closed as people got their own cars and could do the trip faster, but the line to the south of the island was preserved, and money fed into it to keep it usable. It became, to a large extent, a tourist attraction.

Therefore they have never updated engines or carriages, just kept them in good repair. This engine, No 10, is over 100 year olds - as are the others! There is an article here in Wiki about our trains.
