Africa

Clearly I didn't wield the camera for this one - but I did scan it from a very old photo...

This is my mother's uncle Charles Augustus Christian, photographed in 1919. He spent much of his life in the King's African Rifles and then became an instructor for the Kenyan Police force in the 1930s, finally dying in Mombasa where he was doing something for the British government during WW2.

Charles Augustus Christian

Actually we have more photos of him - but they are currently on loan to the local museum as he is to feature in a display to commemorate the centenary of the 1st World War through 2014.

Comments

He looks so dashingly mysterious!
He led a fascinating life - I have learnt more from the guy at the museum who was asking for any relevant pictures for his display. I said I had a couple and, when I gave him the name, he was really interested as he had press cuttings related to Charles Augustus but had no idea what had happened to him after the war.

I must gather it all together properly on my journal, eventually.
Those Manx pop up all over the world!
He got to somewhere even more unexpected - we have a medal he was awarded by Haile Selassie!
