Toys

These jacks were a favorite toy of mine when I was young, and are probably 50 years old (at least). I'm glad I still have them.

Oh yes - I loved my jacks as well ... and still have them (at a similar age!!) ... but I was no good at them!
I should see if I'm still dexterous enough to play. :)
How aweseome that you still have them! I don't know this, though; is it a construction toy?
It's a hand-eye coordination toy. You scatter them, then bounce the ball off the floor a bit. You have to quickly pick up a certain number of 'jacks' (the metal bits) before the ball hits the floor.

Ah, knucklebones! I don't think it is or was a familiar toy in Germany, so I only know the French version which consists of five metal knucklebone-like shapes, so I didn't make the connection. They also don't have a ball, but throw one of the bones up. (There is an image on top of the French page.) I always thought it was called "knucklebones" because your finger knuckles hurt when the thrown knuckle falls on them.... *lol*
It's an awesome toy! When I was small I got giftet a set from some friends from France, and totally loved it. How cool you still have yours!
How lovely to have kept it for so long. I've never seen anything like that. I also gather it's something you construct?

How wonderful you still own them!
I think so, too. I want to play with them. :)
Oh my - I remember playing jacks at primary school too.
I'm going to play with them tonight. :)
I'm not certain young people would recognize this game. I do!
I suspect you're right!
I love jacks. I could play right now but I don't have a set at the moment. I wonder if they are hard to buy now?
I have no idea if they're available in toy stores, but I just checked EBay under 'jacks toy ball vintage' and found quite a few!
How lovely that you have your original set of Jacks. I think we had a set at home in a little plastic pot, but I don't remember actually ever playing it.
I loved playing with these, and am so glad I still have them.
