Montpellier 2013 211

Well, more of an oval really. But the Arenes at Nimes are definitely worth the photo op, especially since it's barely a week since I was there and I'm pining for the warm south and holiday time... An interior view under the cut. It's really looking pretty healthy for two millennia old!

Hmm - for some reason that interior picture makes me think of the Horse of the Year show!
:/ More of a bullfight, I'm afraid. They had a corrida in here the day before. There's more than a little blood on the sand, actually, though it took me a while to notice.
They built things to last back then! Lovely.
Certainly did! It helps they turned it into a castle in the middle ages, mind...
It's beautiful.
It's pretty amazing.
What an awesome place. Thanks for sharing these pics.
It's pretty amazing (very glad I spotted it was closed for most of the holiday I was spending in the area and visited when it was open).
Wow. Lovely and as you say very healthy! It looks like they are still using it too?

And btw where lies Nimes? Seems like a place I'd want to visit! :D
They certainly are. For bullfighting, which doesn't please me so much. But amazing all the same.

It's in the south of France, in the very west of Provence - I got there from Montpellier in Languedoc, about 30 minutes away. The whole area perfect for visiting, honestly!
How interesting. I love it!

It's a fascinating place!
Ah, a lovely answer to the prompt! I have seen them myself some twenty years ago, truly impressive!
