Look Down

This was taken in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, from the 3rd floor. The patterned floor is Ground level, and then below is the basement.[Spoiler (click to open)]

This is also taken from the same vantage point, but showing the clock which is suspended above the area.

Oh, what a pretty floor! It's nice to see what's under that magnificent clock.
I love that patterned floor, it's quite beautiful.

That floor is really meant to be seen from above, isn't it?
Absolutely.
That floor is quite fascinating!
How lovely! It really brings out the pattern on hte floors. Love the clock! Great pic.
Great subject!
Beautiful! I love the way how the floor pattern is best visible from above - I suppose when walking over it one doesn't really realise the strong lines the pattern has.
No, when walking across that floor you tend to not notice the design as much because there are fashion boutiques on either side, so a lot to be distracted by.

The building has an interesting history. Originally built as an 'exhibition' building during the reign of Queen Victoria it hit hard times and was converted to office space. Luckily somebody had the foresight to collect samples of all the ornamental elements of the building, and put them in storage. In the 1970's the building was restored, and because of the tiles, etc. having been stored it was possible to return it exactly to it's original condition. It is a beautiful building, and a place I always visit when I am in Sydney.
How clever of that person to keep the samples!
