Well-Beloved

 photo BloistripOctober2012054.jpg

Not quite so snuggly as the ones we've had on this theme - meet Agnes Sorel, mistress of Charles VII, and so beloved (ahem) that he basically invented the role of official royal mistress for her. He also gave her Loches, which is a very lovely town and castle I would very much like to receive from a boyfriend, tbh. And this tomb, also in Loches, to remember her by.

Now that is certainly a sign of being well-beloved!
I think it was mostly the castle, but I still think it's a pretty fine present, myself.
Oh, that is a great answer to the prompt! We didn't make it to Loches on our recent Loire Valley trip, which I now regret even more.
It was a great place to visit, though I didn't have enough time there either. Proper castle town, with loads of atmosphere.
What a beautiful tomb, and what an amazing token of his love.
It's pretty impressive - he really loved the way she looked, I think, because there are portraits too, way before they were common.
That's quite an intricate carving.
Isn't it! Fine marble that will take that kind of carving. But I guess kings can afford that.
Such beautiful carving - I love the pillow tassels, and the folds in the angel's gown.
It's beautifully done indeed. Great detail.
Well beloved, indeed! A wonderful response to the prompt, and a most interesting one.
Wow. Now that's certainly a grand display of affection.
Quite interesting to read! Well-beloved by some. Not so well liked by the one who poisoned her...
Now that's a nice tomb
