Of all my photos, the one that best captures the idea of 'forgotten' is this one. Its a list of some of the names of the men who built Hadrian's Wall, nineteen hundred years ago, and who can remember that far back? *g* All the more forgotten since the red paint has disappeared and it was unreadable from my position on the cycle path.
It is on the site of the excavated fort, in the aptronymically named Wallsend, and was put up when the site was opened to the public. The names were carved into the stones of the wall and the archaeologists collected the together for this memorial.
