Garden

These are the gardens of Belsay Hall, a wonderful place to wander around on a bright summer's day.

There is a formal part

But the thing that makes the hall famous is the Quarry Garden, a wild area that looks like a natural gorge but, as the name suggests, is actually designed and was the source of the stone used to build the hall in 1807.

There is also a ruined castle in the grounds, where the family lived until they built the hall.

Ohhhh, it looks so green and cool. It's hot and dry here, so I'll walk there in my imagination.
You are very welcome. *ushers you through the virtual portal*
It was a beautiful day, really warm in the sun, so the Quarry Garden was lovely, yes. I do hope you get rain soon, then.
Oooh, that looks so beautiful! :D
It is a beautiful garden.
Lovely! One of the places I always meant to go to but never have.
It was on my list for years before I went to look at it again - I had a wander around the grounds in the early 80s, before it was officially open to the public and the garden was very neglected. Now it is still wild, but beautifully tended.
