Leather

Display of wares of a living history leather worker on a Viking faire last autumn. Below is a display of some of his tools.

All that leather must smell wonderful.
It did, and it felt so soft, too.
Those are really interesting - and I would love to own those red leather boots.
So would I! I actually thought about perhaps getting a pair of ankle boots/shoes from them if I see them again this autumn, although the downside always is if the sole is too slippery to drive with.
soft looking leather looks comfortable
So it does!
Fascinating. I would not have a clue how to start making a shoe.
Most German kids of my generation onwards would probably know, thanks to the Sendung mit der Maus where short films explain this and similar stuff. Today's kids can learn a lot of stuff going to Medieaval faires and watching the workers and craftspeople. Apart from being rather interesting, I think it's totally awesome. My nieces know already how wool is spun, how shoes are made, how a blacksmith works and how a broom-maker, from such occasions.
