Cushion

There have been some lovely cushions (with and without animals) posted already, so I have decided to go with the verb, instead of the noun.

This is the ferry terminal on the river and the big, black, square blocks attached around the edge cushion the ferry (or given that that ferries are usually very solid, perhaps better to say, cushion the jetty) when the ferry comes into dock.

Very clever!
Thank you.
Serene and pretty.
Thank you. It was a lovely spring morning.
What a lovely picture - the river looks beautifully calm and you even have one of the ever-present gulls :)
Thank you. It was really early on a spring morning before the breeze rose.
A nice side step! And a lovely, peaceful scene.
Thank you.
Great choice! And a new term for me as well, as the German term would be buffering or bouncing. Thank you! :o)
Thank you.
And you are welcome. I am trying to think about other words. You could say 'soften the impact', 'deaden the shock', 'absorb the impact', but I can't think of an alternative to 'cushion the jetty'.
