Lookin' good!
Also, beautiful clouds that day!
Thank you - yes, it was a nice day, not today, I fear :(
What a cute little thing!
They are - and quite impressive in as much as they still run an 18 mile route despite being over 100 years old.
Is that like what we would call a streetcar? And electric train that travels within a smallish area?
It is very much the same thing - except that it travels about 18 miles through countryside and small villages between the island's to biggest towns.
Ah. So almost a cross between an urban streetcar and a "real" train. What a wonderful idea, to have something that can do that. We have our subways(Metro) that can take people from outside the city into it. Which I guess is sort of the same thing, now that I think about it.
It was an interesting, quite forward looking, idea of our forefathers, to go electric like that; the MER opened in 1893! It is a bit rattly though, and takes about 80 minutes to do a journey I can do in 25 in my car, but it is still fun to use it sometimes :)

My brother-in-law is one of the drivers - he retired from his original job at the age of 55, retrained, and now works 'on the trams' from Easter until the end of September each year. They do operate all year around, but more in the summer, hence the need for seasonal drivers.
Great to see another item of your island.
We are a strange wee place :)
We used to have electric trolley buses here, but they have been replaced by ordinary buses, which pollute the air. Hardly what I would call progress There is mention of the electric buses being returned, but only as a tourist attraction.
Trolley buses were so much more environmentally friendly. I guess returning to electric buses would reduce city pollution quite a lot.
What a beautiful old machine. It is nice to know things like that are still running.
The first trams began running nearly 125 years ago - I think number 20 must be about 100 years old :) My brother-in-law has a seasonal job as a tram driver since he retired, and he really enjoys it.
