notes from a small island

Summer

Summer is usually very green on our small island -

SD 14

This year summer looks like this -

DSCN2118

Warm, still, but not quite so green.

And finally - this is part of a knitted piece of artwork we made between a number of us at my church - this is part of 'Summer'.

DSCN2141

Because wild fuchsia are part of our summer - and these ones were all hand made by a lady in her early nineties.

I just love those craft-y arrangements!
We have taken the fresh flowers out of them now - but left everything else up, and visitors are still fascinated by them.
Oh, yes. It's amazing what happens to the green.
The view from my mother's is of fields and hills. Last week it was all like that second picture and yellower. Then w had a day of rain on Friday, the first in almost two months. And by yesterday everywhere was at least three shades greener!
That first picture is lovely - really draws the eye in.
Thank you. I was really pleased with it.

It is a footpath from a public car park down to Silverdale; Silverdale has a children's play area, a wee boating lake, and a cafe, so is quite a well used place. But that path still manages to look secluded and quite mysterious. Probably because it meanders down to the old mill and the back of the lake, whilst there is a much more obvious one at the other end of the car park that leads directly to the cafe!
The knitted artwork is amazing.
